Gardening tips for May

Nights are drawing out, so here’s some tips for May…

. After all risk of frost has passed, plant out tomatoes, courgettes and pumpkins that were sown under cover. Other young plants can be planted out once conditions are suitable, and once they’ve been hardened off.

. Harden off Plants and Tidy up Perennials

. Tidy up the foliage of spring bulbs

. Mulch Strawberries

. Feed Raspberry plants

. Plant courgettes and marrows

Wondering what seeds you can plant in May: Runner Beans, Sweetcorn, Beetroot, Broad beans, winter cabbage, Carrot, lettuce, Pea, Radish, Swede and Turnip.

Tip: protect carrot and cabbage sowings with a fine mesh to prevent attack from pests.
